You may be noticing a few more wrinkles on your face and feel like you’re looking a bit tired these days regardless of your beauty routine. You’re not quite ready for a surgical facelift, but you’d like to do something to rejuvenate your appearance. So what are your options?
Botox and is competitors (Dysport, Xeomin) are one of the quickest and easiest cosmetic treatments to reduce signs of aging. They are used to improve frown lines between the brows, crow’s feet around the eyes, wrinkles of the forehead, and neck cords. The treatment typically takes 30 – 45 minutes and lasts from 3 – 4 months. The best rule of thumb is to remember that Botox works great for wrinkles in the upper one-third of the face; it’s not as effective in the lower two-thirds.
A “Liquid Facelift” is an extension of the same theme. The Liquid Facelift utilizes Botox and facial fillers to soften wrinkles and creases, enhance the natural contours of the face, and restore volume to the cheeks and lips. This safe, in-office option quickly provides you with noticeable results at a lower cost compared to surgery.
Two of the most common fillers used during a Liquid Facelift are Voluma and Juvederm. Both of these products are FDA approved hyaluronic acid based fillers. Voluma is used to lift the mid-face by restoring lost cheek volume and lasts up to 2 years after treatment. Juvederm is used to fill and soften the nasolabial folds around your mouth (laugh lines) and to plump thinning lips. Juvederm lasts up to a year or longer.
Laser skin resurfacing is another great options you can choose to improve and rejuvenate your appearance. It is ideal for treating fine lines and deeper wrinkles, sun damage, irregular skin pigmentation, and even acne scars. In general, the more aggressive the laser treatment, the greater the downtime. Downtime can range from 3 – 10 days and is dependent upon the strength of the laser used for resurfacing. Some patients may require multiple treatments to achieve the best results.
Regardless of whether you have a surgical or nonsurgical procedure, it is imperative to protect your investment. Wear broad-spectrum sunscreen daily, limit alcohol consumption, quit smoking, eat a healthy diet and exercise in order to maintain your results.
All of these treatments are great options for attaining a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance. Most of these treatments can be done quickly in your plastic surgeon’s office and require little or no downtime.
