As we age, the tissues responsible for facial expression, the SMAS (Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System) tissues become lax and begin to sag, creating the jowls along the jawline and deepen the creases that form between the corners of our mouth and the sides of our noses. A SMAS facelift procedure effectively corrects jowls, hollow cheeks and deep creases, restoring a more youthful look and appearance.

Am I a candidate for a SMAS Facelift?
If you are in your 50’s or more mature and have a realistic desire to turn back the clock, you are probably a good candidate for a SMAS Facelift. You must be in good health and have reasonable and realistic goals and expectations about facelift surgery.
A SMAS facelift is performed under general anesthesia or with IV sedation and may take several hours to perform. Dr. Jejurikar will make incisions through all three skin layers facial and neck skin, then lift these layers upward with tension placed on the underlying SMAS layer. Excess fat is trimmed away, then the SMAS is sutured in place.
Swelling, bruising, numbness and some discomfort are normal and to be expected for 1-2 weeks. Swelling, bruising, puffiness, numbness and paleness are all normal and clear gradually over several days, however some bruising will take 2-3 weeks to resolve.
Typically patients are presentable and able to return to work in about two weeks.
