Botox and Dysport for an edge in the Dallas workplace – Dr. Sam Jejurikar, Dallas plastic surgeon

Botox and Dysport for an edge in the Dallas workplace – Dr. Sam Jejurikar, Dallas plastic surgeon

With the economic recession in the United States, more people are working longer and are seeking an advantage for maintaining a youthful appearance in the work place.  Although this may not improve one’s job performance, many times, particularly when looking for new employment, a competitive advantage can be obtained by looking more refreshed and more youthful.  In the last year, it has become apparent that Botox and its competitor, Dysport, are being performed with more and more frequency for precisely this purpose.  These treatments help eliminate dynamic wrinkles, particularly crow’s feet around the eyes, frown lines between the eyebrows, and lines across the forehead.  With relatively simple and quick office injection of Botox or Dysport, wrinkles can disappear within just a matter of days.

The cost of Botox and Dysport varies, depending on the amount of product used and the areas treated.  In general, patients can expect to pay between $350-$700 per treatment. Results generally last from 3 to 6 months.

Should you have questions about this procedure or other noninvasive procedures to gain a competitive advantage in the workplace, do not hesitate to contact Dr. Jejurikar’s office at 214-827-2814.  Dr. Jejurikar is a board certified plastic surgeon with convenient office locations in Dallas and Plano.

What’s a Nonsurgical Nose Job? By Dr. Sam Jejurikar

Many patients come to the office, complaining about the appearance of their nasal hump. Some of the patients want the hump to go away, but don’t necessarily want surgery to fix it.

The great news is that dermal fillers can be used to correct this. The most commonly used filler used for this is Radiesse, which is made out of calcium hydroxylapatite.  Although the results are not permanent, they generally last 12-18 months.  Radiesse is not a great treatment for and overly long or short nose, a wide or bulbous nasal tip, or an overly wide nose.

If you are troubled by the appearance of your nose, and you would like to learn more about nonsurgical nose jobs and surgical rhinoplasty, do not hesitate to contact Dr. Jejurikar’s office at 214-827-2814.

Beauty sleep really is important! Dr. Jejurikar at the Dallas Plastic Surgery Institute

My mom always told me to get my beauty rest. Now science backs her up.

According to a recently published study from the British Medical Journal (link), sleep deprived people are perceived as less healthy, less attractive, and more tired than after a normal night’s sleep. Participants in the study were photographed after a normal night’s sleep (eight hours) and after sleep deprivation (31 hours of wakefulness after a night of reduced sleep). The photographs were randomized and rated by untrained observers. Participants were rated using a visual analog score. The findings were that sleep deprived people were perceived as less healthy, more tired, and overall, less attractive than after a normal night’s sleep.

Plastic surgeons, including me, usually give patients advice that focus on skin care and surgery. This study is a reminder that simple, basic things, including getting a good night’s sleep, are just as important for maintaining a youthful and attractive appearance.

Treatment for Early Facial Aging in Dallas – Face Lift Dallas – Thermage Dallas – Ulthera Dallas

I’ve seen many patients in their late 30s and early 40s who are interested in treating early facial aging. Most are familiar with Botox and fillers such as Juvederm, Restylane and Radiesse, but they want to learn about options with longer lasting results.

A facelift consists of repositioning deep facial soft tissue and tightening of the skin. Although it remains the gold standard for treating signs of facial aging, it is an invasive surgical procedure and requires 2-3 weeks of recovery. Some patients don’t have the time for this, or feel that they are too young for this option.

There are other options for signs of early facial aging in Dallas. The first is a new treatment called Ulthera, which is offered at EpiCentre Dallas and EpiCentre Legacy (Plano). This involves deep ultrasound treatment to reposition and tighten the deeper facial fat and soft tissue. Although the results are not as dramatic as those seen with a facelift, Ulthera offers proven clinical results with minimal downtime. Another treatment, which is effective for skin tightening, is Thermage. Thermage uses radiofrequency, or heat, to tighten the skin. This can effectively tighten the skin of the lower face and neck with virtually no downtime.

If you would like to learn more about surgery for facial aging in Dallas, as well as noninvasive treatments, including Ulthera, Thermage, Botox, Juvéderm, Restylane, and Radiesse, don’t hesitate to contact Dr. Jejurikar’s office at (214)827-2814.

“Tickle” Liposuction Offered at Plano Office – Legacy Plastic Surgery Institute at Legacy Medical Village

Awake liposuction is now available for patients at the Legacy Plastic Surgery Institute, the home of the Dallas Plastic Surgery Institute in west Plano. Tickle liposuction involves utilizing a European system known as Vibroliposuction. This involves using a small cannula, which utilizes nutational movements to cause very little trauma and pain during the procedure, allowing for it to be performed while awake.

While it is a misnomer to think that this is not an invasive surgical procedure, it can be performed with patients being awake quite comfortably. Patients can expect to have between 2.0-2.5 liters of fat removed from the abdomen utilizing this system. The most commonly treated areas for this include the abdomen, love handles, thighs, and arms.

Botox Injections for Migraine Headaches – Dallas Plastic Surgery Institute

Botox has recently been approved by the Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of migraine headaches. The specific patients approved by the FDA suffer from severe headaches at least 15 days per month. Many patients have been using Botox for treatment of headaches for several years as an off-label use, and have found tremendous benefit.

Botox works by blocking nerve signals to muscles, paralyzing muscles that can cause headaches. Often times 20-30 injections are required in the forehead, temples, and neck. The treatments can provide up to 3-4 months of relief from nagging and painful headaches.

Cleft Lip and Palate Mission in Bangladesh Successfully Completed

Greetings,

We made it back from our medical mission to Cox’s Bazaar, Bangladesh, which is an underserved, poverty-stricken region of the world. Between three attending surgeons, we performed 47 operations, most of which were cleft lip repairs. Over 80% of Bangladesh’s population earns less than $2/day; not surprisingly, much of the population lives in conditions unimaginable to those of residing in the United States.

Nipple Sensation and Breast Augmentation – Dr. Sam Jejurikar, Board Certified Plastic Surgeon in Dallas, TX

Many patients complain of changes in nipple and breast sensation immediately after breast augmentation. It is common for patients to complain that the breasts have diminished sensation, and, in rare situations, are hypersensitive.

The good news is that the changes in sensation, in most cases, are temporary. It can take several months to a year for the changes in sensation to resolve, but they do almost always improve. There is a slightly greater chance of nipple numbness with a periareolar incision; this is an incision around the areola, which is the pigmented skin surrounding the nipple. Even with this incision, most patients tend to regain normal sensation.

Should you have any questions regarding this, breast augmentation or breast implant surgery, do not hesitate to contact Dr. Jejurikar’s office at 214-827-2814.

Lower Body Lift at the Dallas Plastic Surgery Institute – Sam Jejurikar, M.D., Board Certified Plastic Surgeon

Lower body lift, otherwise known as belt lipectomy or circumferential abdominoplasty, is a comprehensive and effective operation for patients who have lost large amounts of weight. This surgery essentially involves combining 3 commonly performed procedures: buttock lift, outer thigh lift, and tummy tuck (abdominoplasty). During this operation, patients are turned onto their front, back, and sides, and tissue is removed in a belt-like pattern circumferentially from the patient. With this, the outer thighs are tightened, the buttock is lifted, and a standard tummy tuck is performed.

This operation traditionally takes 6-8 hours and patients are asked to spend one or two nights in the hospital. Although it is more extensive than a standard or extended tummy tuck, assuming the patient is in good health and has undergone a thorough preoperative assessment, it is convenient and safe to perform lower body lift.

Should you have any questions regarding lower body lift, do not hesitate to contact Dr. Jejurikar’s office at 214-827-2814.
