At Dr. Sam Jejurikar’s Dallas Plastic Surgery Institute Office, it is common to see twenty-something old patients coming in for regular treatments with Botox. Sounds a little crazy, right? Why would a patient who’s so young need or want treatment for wrinkles?
As it turns out, even young patient have troublesome lines of the forehead, frown lines between the brows, and crow’s feet (wrinkles around the eyes that worsen with smiling). Botox effectively eradicates these lines by transiently paralyzing the underlying muscles that cause these wrinkles. In fact, according to official statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the number of twenty-something’s getting Botox is on the rise; it increased 8% in 2012 alone.
Many patients that we see at Dr. Jejurikar’s office use Botox as a preventive measure for fine wrinkles. The thought is that treating wrinkles before they become severe will prevent them from becoming more severe. Dr. Jejurikar and his patients generally have noticed this to be true and this is confirmed by the medical literature. A 2010 study performed in Oregon showed that regular Botox treatments (every four months) lessened the need for treatments after two years. This demonstrates that regular, frequent treatments with Botox can prevent the development of wrinkles.
