Not all of us were blessed with perfectly-shaped noses. Rhinoplasty is a popular cosmetic surgery that corrects imperfections of the shape of the nose. Having a beautifully proportioned nose can boost one’s self-confidence, create balance among the facial features. This can often be accomplished in conjunction with nasal surgery to correct a birth defect, an injury, or to correct breathing problems.
Rhinoplasty corrects the following:
- Your nose appears too large for your face
- Bumps on the bridge of your nose
- Your nose is too wide for your face
- The tip of your nose curves downward
- The tip of your nose is enlarged
- Flaring nostrils
- Your nose is off-center or crooked
- A previous injury has made your nose asymmetrical with the rest of your face
Am I a good candidate for rhinoplasty?
You are an excellent candidate for rhinoplasty if you are in good overall health, you do not smoke, and your face has completed growth.
The Procedure
Rhinoplasty is usually an outpatient procedure performed under IV sedation or general anesthesia.
Dr. Jejurikar uses one of two techniques when performing nose surgery: open and closed rhinoplasty. At your consultation appointment you and Dr. Jejurikar will decide which of the two techniques is appropriate for your surgery. Either way, Dr. Jejurikar will gently lift the soft tissues covering the nose and sculpt the bone and cartilage into the desired shape, close the incision and apply a sterile dressing.
Recovery
You may experience puffiness, nose ache or a dull headache, some swelling and bruising, bleeding or stuffiness. Most patients feel like themselves within two or three days and return to work within about a week.
