It’s tough for anyone to watch his or her youthful appearance start to fade.  Eating well and exercising regularly does wonders to maintain a great appearance, but it still can’t prevent loose skin, bags under the eyes and sagging jowls.  Thankfully, there are many cosmetic options available to assist us in the aging process.

Facelifts provide the most dramatic results to improve loose and wrinkled facial skin, deep creases and skin that seems saggy. There are variations of the facelift procedure and different types of anesthesia that can be used during the surgery.  The most appropriate choice for you will be made by the plastic surgeon during your initial consultation.  The surgeon will also discuss how the facelift and any additional procedure is preformed, what you can expect after surgery, the pre and post-operative instructions and typical recovery time.

During a facelift, incisions are made under the hairline at the temples and around the ear to the lower scalp.  The incision locations allow the scars to remain obscure beneath the hair and hidden in the natural creases of the ears and face.  Next, the fat beneath the skin is sculpted or redistributed and the deep tissues and muscles are lifted.  Finally, the facial skin is re-draped and the excess skin is trimmed.  If a neck lift is also being preformed, an incision will be made under the chin.  Swelling and bruising after having a facelift should be expected and will usually subside within two to three weeks.  Most patients are able to return to their normal activities after three to four weeks of recovery.

The best candidates for having a facelift are those who are in good physical and mental health and have the desire to turn back the clock for a more refreshed and youthful appearance.  As a restorative procedure, a facelift is not intended to change your fundamental appearance.  The results generally last for 10 years or more, but will not stop the aging process.  Therefore, it is important that all facelift candidates have realistic goals and expectations about the surgery.

Great results after a facelift require an experienced surgeon to achieve the best results.  Dr. Jejurikar is a board certified plastic surgeon that has extensive training and experience in facial aesthetic surgery.  If you are interested in learning more about facelifts and additional facial cosmetic procedures, call Dr. J’s office at 214-827-2814 to schedule your consultation.
