Lower body lift, otherwise known as belt lipectomy or circumferential abdominoplasty, is a comprehensive and effective operation for patients who have lost large amounts of weight. This surgery essentially involves combining 3 commonly performed procedures: buttock lift, outer thigh lift, and tummy tuck (abdominoplasty). During this operation, patients are turned onto their front, back, and sides, and tissue is removed in a belt-like pattern circumferentially from the patient. With this, the outer thighs are tightened, the buttock is lifted, and a standard tummy tuck is performed.
This operation traditionally takes 6-8 hours and patients are asked to spend one or two nights in the hospital. Although it is more extensive than a standard or extended tummy tuck, assuming the patient is in good health and has undergone a thorough preoperative assessment, it is convenient and safe to perform lower body lift.
