Big butts have been in the spotlight lately, but breast augmentation still ranks as the most commonly preformed cosmetic procedure.  It’s not just “all about that bass.”  Women with big butts and full hips are also seeking more voluptuous breasts to achieve a coveted hourglass figure.

If you’ve experienced loss of shape and volume as a result of childbirth, breast-feeding or aging, or weren’t naturally blessed with full breasts, then breast augmentation can be the perfect choice for you as well.  Breast augmentation will restore a more youthful, perkier appearance and shape to the breasts and can even increase self-confidence.

The two types of implants to choose from for your breast augmentation are silicone (gummy) or saline.  Saline implants are made with silicone shells and filled with sterile salt water.  They feel much firmer than silicone implants and tend to have a less natural appearance.  If there is a leak in the implant, the body absorbs the saline and the implant immediately deflates.  Silicone implants have silicone shells and are filled with a thick, gummy silicone gel.  These implants have a much softer feel and provide a more natural look. With the newest generation of silicone breast implants, if the implant ruptures, the gel will not travel throughout the body, but will remains in the implant shell.  Silicone implants won’t collapse if there is a leak and your plastic surgeon will have to exchange the ruptured implant.  Regular visits to your doctor ensure the proper function of the implants, as do ultrasounds and MRI screenings.

If you’ve been considering a new set for summer, now is the time to take the plunge into lower necklines and fuller bikini tops.  Breast augmentation surgery generally takes around an hour to perform and is done under general anesthesia.  It is an outpatient procedure unless it is done in conjunction with other requested procedures.  Dependent upon your anatomy and size of implants, your plastic surgeon will create the incisions around the nipples, in the fold under the breasts, or in the armpits.  After undergoing breast augmentation, it typically takes 3-5 days for the soreness to subside and you feel like yourself.  No strenuous exercise is allowed for the first 3 weeks after surgery, but after that you’re in the clear.
